Babies and music: Some More Suggestions.

In my last post I provided some suggestions of hardware or gadgets as I call them that will allow your baby to enjoy music. In today's post I want to continue with my discussion of music for babies. I will list some reasons that I think music is important and then give a list of CDs that I think your baby might enjoy.

Reasons to include Music in your Baby's early education plan.

1. Music helps babies develop the ability to speak. Small children and babies are said to benefit from hearing rhythms, melody and other characteristics of music that lead to increased language development.

2. Some experts claim that music helps children learn math and other knowledge that requires analytical skills. This seems to be true when you consider the links between music and math and the sciences. Music is made up of beats, scales, harmonics and other mathematical relationships. Your baby will learn some music theory just by listening to it. The link between math and music is discussed in the "Mozart effect". You can listen to a report on NPR that mentions the Mozart Effect here.

3. It is also held that the innovative and experimental uses of music can help to improve listening and attention deficit disorders. The collective uses of music for imagery and visualization, to activate creativity are also said to be another effect of letting your baby listen to music.

4. Listening to music also enhances your babies ability to reason abstractly because the areas of the brain that perform pattern matching also are responsible for musical recognition.

Please consider the below list of CDs to help your baby learn to appreciate music.
