We are fortunate that we have a government agency that protects the public from harm that can be caused by more than 15,000 different kinds of products. Some surveys place the cost of damage caused by unsafe consumer products at more than $700 billion per year.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has worked to lower the injuries and deaths from consumer products in the last 30 years by 30%. The CPSC's website list recalls and is an excellent source for parents who want to be sure that products that they use for their babies are safe.
You can visit the CPSC on the web here; Consumer Product Safety Commission website.
From there you can browse their list of recalled products. You can compare product numbers on your items with those listed to see if any have been recalled. If some of your children's toys, furniture or other items have been recalled than you can read the Remedy section. This section provides instructions on what to do with the recalled item as well as contact information. Recalled items can have a full refund, you may be provided with replacement parts or you may be able to exchange your defective item for a new one.
You can also report unsafe products or damage to a person or property, by going to this link;
Report Unsafe Products! If you have a product, recalled or otherwise, that has caused damage to a person or to your property, and would like to report it to CPSC, use the online forms at Consumer Product Incident Report.
