Children's entertainment on Cell Phones

Suppose during those moments when you are busy, driving the car or checking out at the grocery store and your little one needs something to hold their attention and you could pass them your cell phone to watch a few minutes of their favorite cartoon chatacter, would you do it?

Well in the not too distant future this may not just be possible but it may be the norm. Because some of the best know names in children's television programming are working on bringing media that can be displayed on cell phones for children. This media would be a kind of "high tech pacifier" or mini television.

While it is still early in the development stages and the details are not fully worked out, parents could pay a monthly subscription fee to receive phone content with the most popular kids' characters.

According to the article The next frontier: Telephones for tots By Doreen Carvajal (International Herald Tribune) companies as large as the makers of Sesame Street, Disney, Warner Brothers, and the creators of the Teletubbies are all working on this new project.

I personally think this is a great idea, but I read a comment on this story by a parent who stated that he passes his cell phone to his daughter all the time. And he is not paying for any special content or extra services. He says, "my daughter is just using her imagination, and if I ask her to let me speak to Snow White, she replies, It's just make believe daddy."
